Dragonchoice 3: and so it begins

28 October 2015 | 4 comments | Tagged: ,

I didn’t think it would take this long.

I wrote Dragonchoice nearly fifteen years ago, in response to the then-unprecedented creation of an official Fan Fiction Forum on Anne McCaffrey’s Kitchen Table website. I banged it out, a chapter a week, in twelve weeks.

So I’m not sure why it’s taken quite so long to get Dragonchoice 3, the third and most definitely final story of the trilogy, written. It’s longer, by…just a bit. It’s more complicated. It’s more ambitious. And maintaining continuity has been a bitch.

But this is my last foray into the world of Pern fanfiction. It feels like being kicked out of Narnia after too many visits, except I’m doing the kicking-out myself. And I’m damned if I won’t explore every last place that bears exploring before I chase that fabled white stag all the way past the lamp-post and back into the wardrobe.

Dragonchoice 3 won’t be for everyone. It’s a long ride. It’s going to get bumpy.

Hold on tight.

Posting schedule

I’ll be posting chapters weekly, at fanfiction.net, and at An Archive Of Our Own, as well as here, so you can follow it wherever you prefer. I’ll also be posting to the @dragonchoice Twitter whenever I update. And you can find me on Facebook if you really want to.

Artists wanted!

Artwork will be, as always, a fundamental part of DC3. The incomparable Micah Johnson has already been hard at work, and I’ll be announcing (/boasting about) the other artists who’ve already signed up to illustrate the story as we go along. I’ll also be stalking some of my favourite artists on DeviantArt and other places, looking to persuade them to contribute illustrations. If you’d like to help with the fanart side of this fanfiction and fanart monster, do get in touch!
