The Artists

Fredrik Andersson
Created: "Bathtime" (Chapter Six, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "In Distress" (Chapter Nineteen, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen).
Background: Been dabbling with art and comics on my own since childhood. Always liked comics more than novels though. Have been heavily into anthropomorphics and influenced by manga. Have worked as a comic layout artist and a computer game concept artist. Need the fun and artistic freedom offered by fiction and fantasy to keep my imagination going. There are no set rules or boundaries unless we create them ourselves, so it was a fun challenge to draw some dragons for Dragonchoice based on Pern-dragon anatomy.
Favourite media: Mechanical pencils and standard pencils.

Jen Bagge
Created: "Guardian" (Chapter Sixteen, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen).
Background: Without doubt, dragons have always been my favorite thing to draw. It's been nearly five years since I sat down, determined to be be good at this. I'm almost completely self-taught, too, seeing as how I failed nearly every art class I've ever taken.
Favourite media: Colored pencils and inks.

Julia 'Myaah' B.
Created: "Twilight Dragon" (Chapter Twenty-one, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen).
Background: I’m French and majoring in Geography. Nothing to do with drawing... Yet, I’ve always loved dragons and fantasy, since early childhood. I’ve learned drawing on my own, during my spare time, and not as a potential job - because, quite simply, this way I can choose to draw what I want. And I hope to go on like this for the rest of my life.
Favourite media: Pencil and Photoshop 7.0.

Becky Camfield
Created: "Early arrivals" (Prologue, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen).
Background: I'm 19 and studying biological sciences. I have always loved dragons from an early age and I love fantasy in general - reading or drawing. Although I took art at A-level, I always preferred to do my own thing. I always seem to be sketching, so I carry a notepad almost everywhere (even to lectures). Main genre for my art is fantasy - I like to create beasties off the top of my head, but main creature is the dragon. My last project was a mural - a two metre by three metre blue dragon on my bedroom wall.
Favourite media: Pencils are my main medium, but I do use paint sometimes.
Links: My main site is at http://chaosia.deviantart.com and I also have an Elfwood gallery.

Amanda Davis
Created: "Pierdeth" (Chapter One, Dragonchoice).
Background:
I'm 22 and an English major. My drawing is mostly a hobby, to please myself, though I love letting others view my work. My favourite subjects are dragons and Gargoyles, from the Fox TV show.
Favourite media: I usually use pencils and colored pencils, although I've done a few really nice pieces with acrylics on canvas.
Links: My work can be seen under the name Amanda R. Davis in the Fantasy and Fanart sections of Elfwood, or at my site http://www.angelfire.com/oh5/hopper/index.html

Miriam Dose
Created: "Searchrider and Blue" (Chapter Two, Dragonchoice); "Blooding" (Chapter Eleven, Dragonchoice).
Background:
I have always enjoyed drawing, but hated participating in curriculum art, so never took art at school. I could probably have done with the theory and techniques, but have managed by making stuff up as I go along. My favourite subjects to draw are animals or plants, but I have occasionally attempted people.
Favourite media: Sketching pencils, pastels, watercolours, branching out into acrylics.

Heather Dudley
Created: Back and Next fire-lizards (throughout Dragonchoice)
Background:
I'm 26 years old, married, obsessed with all things draconic, and I just sit around doing nothing most of the time. I've been a part of Pern fandom for well over seven years, though these days I don't participate actively as much anymore.  I've never been a great artist, but I do dabble on occasion, and Faye approached me about a couple of firelizards.  I have always been a great fan of
Dragonchoice, so I jumped at the opportunity to contribute!
Favourite media: Pencil and paper.

Daniel Falck
Created: "New friends" (Chapter Three, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Old brown" (Chapter Six, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "T'kamen" (Chapter Twelve, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Gladrags and fire-lizards" (Chapter Twenty, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen) .
Background:
Born and raised in Sweden (I took my first breath of air in April 1980) I started drawing at a very early age and haven't managed to stop yet. Beside drawing I paint and sculpt. I've got my share of art studies behind me but I'm pretty much self-taught. Fantasy, fairy-tales, Swedish folklore and SF have always inspired me in my work, as well as other artists. I have worked a little as an illustrator for a game magazine and done some small cover art and pics for companies and associations. Art is my big passion in life, and I strive to make a living from it. So a job, anyone ;-)
Favourite media: I prefer acrylic and pencils when I work. I sometimes do digital but I don't really like that medium. I like to feel the canvas and brush under my own hands, you see!

Sam Hogg
Created: "Weyrlingmaster's Advice" (Chapter Five, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Napping" (Chapter Seven, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Alpha Male" (Back cover, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen).
Background:
A creative since my youngest school days, I've always been an artist and writer. I found a love of fantasy literature at 13, and have never looked back. Some of my favourite books were the Pern novels, Piers Anthony's Xanth novels and the Dragonlance sagas, and more recently, David Gemmel, Ricardo Pinto and Janny Wurt's Wars of Light and Shadow - my favourite books of all time.

Artistically, I'm inspired by anything and everything, though my favourite artists are Brom, Vallejo, Cleavenger, Caravaggio, Velazquez and Mucha.

In my spare time I can be mostly found drawing, writing my own 600 page novel, watching American wrestling or playing videogames.

Micah Johnson
Created: "Loyal bronze" (Chapter Ten, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Crippled" (Chapter Eleven, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Search" (Chapter Fourteen, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen) .
Background: I've been drawing since I was 2 years old, mainly self taught, but one teacher in particular gave help at critical times. I started reading the Pern series about two years ago and dragons have been my favorite subject to draw since, but I try to keep some variety in my work. Some studying of anatomy has helped me with trying to flesh out dragons in my mind and on paper.
Favourite media: Mechanical pencil, and Adobe Photoshop for cleanup work and the occasional painting.

Jenni Juntunen
Created: "Weyrmates" (Chapter Four, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Greens" (Chapter Seven, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Nice weather" (Chapter Eight, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Before the storm" (Chapter Nine, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Council of war" (Chapter Thirteen, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Challenge" (Chapter Fifteen, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Entranced" (Chapter Eighteen, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Mother" (Chapter Eighteen, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Hatchling queen" (Chapter Nineteen, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Green weyrlings" (Chapter Twenty, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "The future" (Epilogue, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); Dragonchoice icons.
Background: The world of Pern was totally new for me - thanks to Faye for inviting me to be part of this project and showing me these lovely creatures and characters. About me, I've been in art school and now I continue to study graphic design. I hope I find more of this kind of project - I've really enjoyed doing this!
Favourite media: I use many kind of medias and like to try new things as well, but this time I concentrated on watercolours, trying to get the feeling of old fairy tale books with their nice colourful pages.

Gemma Legacy
Created: "Weyrleader's bronze" (Chapter Two, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen).
Background: PreciousInfinity is the name for the Wiccan Witch in me as well as the artist -why these two are combined I don’t know. But the artist has found things difficult. I always loved to draw, but school was awful and college was oppressive, so I never reached my full potential during my teens. Only when I left the world of structured art did things become better. The messages from the brain in my head actually began to reach the brain in my hand. I was astonished. But I was years behind what I should have been capable of.

My main problem now is the human form - in my head it’s more complicated that is should be, and it’s made worse when I buy books of stunning art work by artists only a few years older than me or, heaven forefend, my age! I’ve got a lot of work to do if I ever hope to be an animator and work for Disney. It’s still a man’s art world, and for a female artist who is totally mainstream, a man’s world where you're unappreciated is frustrating. But don’t worry, I’ll show ‘em, I’ll show ‘em all. Ahahahahahaha!

Charlotte Moore
Created: "Impression" (Chapter Four, Dragonchoice); "Disappointment" (Chapter Six, Dragonchoice); "Rescue" (Chapter Ten, Dragonchoice).
Background: I'm 21 and an English major/Spanish minor, with aspirations of an M.F.A. in Creative Writing - with luck, I'll write my own fiction someday. I've been a McCaffrey fan since I was 12 years old, when I first read "The Smallest Dragonboy" in my seventh-grade English class. I didn't actually begin drawing dragons until high school, but since then it's been a constant effort to refine my skill and style. Recently, I've been trying to get away from dragons and back into the challenges of long pose, but dragons are still a pleasure to draw.
Favourite media: My preferred traditional medium is graphite, but I prefer to colour on my computer.
Links: Though I have a domain name, I don't, at present, have more than a crude directory listing of my work, which is too sloppy to bother anyone with just now.

Amanda Phillips
Created: "Catch" (Chapter Fifteen, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen).
Background: My introduction to Pern occurred in elementary school when I bought "The Dragonlover's Guide to Pern" from a science fiction book club. We read "The Smallest Dragonboy" in class a year or so later, and I became a de facto Pern expert. Incidentally, our class project on the story also marked my first foray into drawing the Pernese dragon.

After I read the actual books, I discovered fandom and, eventually, Faye, who has utterly corrupted my perception of the world (Pern and otherwise) ever since. I have happily served as her Sub-Dictator whenever possible.
Favourite media: Old-fashioned pencil and paper.

C. Ssthisto Reid
Created: Cover illustration, Dragonchoice; "Companions" (Chapter Seven, Dragonchoice); "Daredevil" (Chapter Three, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen).
Background:
Largely self-taught, I've been drawing seriously for the last fifteen years. Dragons are my particular favourite topic, along with dinosaurs and other scaly and feathered beasties; though I prefer digital media to any other, I still carry a pocket notepad for those sketch ideas that won't go away while I'm sitting on public transport.
Favourite media: Painter 9 for digital media, mechanical pencils for physical media.

Amelia Stoner
Created: "Storm" (Chapter Twelve, Dragonchoice).
Background:
I enjoy mostly coloring, although I tend to do well with illustrations and things like that. As for the subject matter, most of the time I really enjoy fantasy as a genre for my artwork. Dragons, and mythical beings and stories.
Favourite media: Mostly pen and ink, or pencil.

Lauri Williamson
Created: "Bronth triumphant" (Chapter Fifteen, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Home territory" (Chapter Seventeen, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Hatchling" (Chapter Nineteen, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen); "Struggle" (Chapter Twenty-one, Dragonchoice II: Dragonchosen).
Background: Mostly a self taught artist, I fell in love with dragons after reading the Pern series. For this reason, I was particularly pleased to be asked to submit art work for Dragonchoice II. My main genre is fantasy, usually based on role play, or books.
Favourite media: Pencil and coloured pencils - they are easily transportable....
