How to name your chapters

So you may have gathered that I’m working on Dragonchoice 3. Though ‘picking morosely at Dragonchoice 3’ would be more accurate. It ain’t coming easily this time.

Like most of my Pern-community friends, and a decent proportion of non-Pern-community friends, I’m fairly obsessed with George R R Martin’s a Song Of Ice And Fire at the moment. No, I’m not one of these Jonny-come-latelies who only picked up the books after the HBO adaptation came out; I’m an oldtimer from, oh, the late ’90s. But what with the TV show, and A Dance With Dragons finally being released, it’s an exciting time to be a Thrones fan. Even if Dragons was…not all I’d hoped.

Still, in chipping away at the third (and final) Dragonchoice novel, I’m paying tribute to Martin. Dragonchoice just had chapter numbers; Dragonchoice 2 took its chapter names from the lyrics of various Pernese songs and ballads. Dragonchoice 3’s chapters will be named, Martin-like, after their point of view characters.

Now I have an excuse to take five more years to write my sequel! It’s in homage to GRRM, honest!

Hello again! I’m sorry I haven’t checked in here in so long, I just came back to read your wonderful stories after college ended for the semester.

I wanted to let you know I’m excited! Your work has always enriched Pern for me, and I’ve enjoyed coming back to it again and again to spark new ideas. Take as long as you like to write your story. I’ll be one of many here to read it when it comes out. <3

For many years I would go to my favorite booortkse where the first thing I did was see if Anne McCaffrey had a new Pern book on the shelves. I will miss her greatly.
